7. Advent Saint Collection: St. Francis Xavier, Missionary for Japan

Feast December 3rd.

Saint Francis Xavier, missionary champion and Jesuit Father, a man who became like the people he served in all the truth, goodness,and beauty. He evangelized the people of Japan, baptizing hundreds, catechizing with zeal, prayerfully making Jesus known, his missionary spirit was unshakable. I got to know him well as a focus missionary( now over 10 years ago !) as he’s one of the patron Saints of focus.

In the painting we have Saint Francis Xavier in prayer, robed in black. A cherry blossom tree, the National flower of Japan, the words in Japanese “Saint Francis Xavier”. The bottom right hosts a lily typically depicted with the pure Saint Francis Xavier. The blue and three white squiggles symbolize baptism, because he baptized so many. The background color is cherry blossom tea;a totally natural pigment and big hug for Japanese culture.
